Music Ministry

Philosophy

Having been transformed by the gospel of Christ, our desire at Calvary Baptist Church is to worship God as He desires—in spirit and in truth (Jn 4:24). Since we want to please Him in all we do, we seek to follow the Scripture’s teaching about worship. God desires that our worship reflect His own beauty and holiness (Ps 96:9), and that it come from our hearts (Is 29:13). We come into His presence with songs full of love, joy, and thankfulness for what He has done for us (Matt 22:37; Ps 94:2) and with a spirit of reverence, fear, and awe for who He is (Ps 89:7; Heb 12:28). We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs that are filled with the words of Christ and biblical truth (Col 3:16). All that we sing or play, we offer up to God through Jesus Christ (Heb 13:15), so that God would be praised (Ps 30:4), his people would be taught and encouraged (Col 3:16), and the world would turn in faith to Christ (Ps 40:3).

Music in Worship

Our music ministry is a vital part of our corporate worship. As a congregation, we enjoy singing historic hymns of the faith as well as psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs composed more recently that are in harmony with our music philosophy. A number of gifted instrumentalists and vocalists serve as soloists and in mixed ensembles on a weekly basis. Our adult choir and orchestra typically serve on Sundays, and our teen and children’s choirs sing periodically throughout the year. At Christmas and Easter, our choir presents seasonal choral selections, including a yearly Christmas cantata.
